Is Ichigo actually human?

Postby tite on Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:58 pm

I have a question. This pertains to everyone talking about being surprised that Ichigo has such a vast Reiatsu even though he is human. I'll preface it with this, OK I know Ichigo has always had an immense Reiatsu even when Rukia first gave him Shinigami powers, and he was definitely human. However, when those powers were stripped by Byakuya, Urahara put Ichigo through Shattered Shaft to gain his own Shinigami powers. In order to go through the Shaft process, one need to enter as a plus. So, Urahara severed Ichigo's chain of fate. So, here is my question:

Since Ichigo's Chain of Fate was cut, making him a Plus, is Ichigo actually really still human anymore?

Actually, i think he is not human, the moment he went trough with Shattered Shaft, that changed. So, if we were to call him human, it would be when he is using his own human body, which if i may add, it is kept somewhere in his house when he goes out to fight. >.> lol >.> He is a pure blood Shinigami, well not anymore due to his Inner Hollow, but being Isshin's son it would give him that privilege.

Having turned into a plus, it means he died(?), meaning, not necessarily being a real human anymore. -.-
Didn't Urahara said during training ... "in order to regain your powers, you have to die". Or something alike?

Yeah, that's why I ask because everyone talks and makes their points based on him being human, so I'm curios what everyone else thinks. Because, I think, for all intents and purposes, he should no longer be considered a human.

thats a good question tite im not sure if he is 100% human b/c he can take so much damage and not die as well as his huge amount of strength and reaitsu as well as him getting stronger so quickly. im sure he is human but not 100% human because of his brute strength.

He's not human anymore. :ugeek: Urahara killed him
What happened to Inoue in the beginning of the series when her brother attacked her was somewhat like a "near-death" experience where her soul was separated from her body but the chain was still linking them together. Like what DD mentioned, Ichigo died when his chain was cut off.

Since this topic is about Ichigo, then what happened when Rukia gave him her shinigami powers? He wasn't dead yet, right? That instant she stabbed him, he became a shinigami. So Ichigo was dead and alive at the same time? If not then, would that mean Ichigo died twice? Or was that a different situation since Rukia was only lending him her powers?

In a way, he still does hold some human in him. During the first season, I still thought he was pretty much human cuz he was just "burrowing" powers from Rukia. When he gained his own powers which simultaneously gave him Hollow powers at the same time, I didn't know what to think of him. After he controlled his hollow powers, he should be technically considered a vizard. So in a way, he's not a full-fledged shinigami but he's also not completely human.

Since his father was once a shinigami and his mother is supposedly human, he might actually be a sort of hybrid. So in a way, he's half shinigami and half human I think >.>".

I don't think he's completely human either. Often I get the impression that the soul society either doesn't know or hasn't tried to understand Ichigo's power (although by the bakkoutou arc Yammamoto definitely knew). It wouldn't surprise me if there were some shinigami who believe he's still borrowing powers from Rukia. But we know better...

Good discussion, I've got something to add to this so here I go. Ichigo is the son of a Shinigami yes? would that not mean that from the moment he was born he was not completely human even if Isshin had lost his powers?
